How to read the chart

The first table turns minutes into decimal hours: find the minutes, read the decimal, and add it to your whole hours. The second table goes the other way, from hundredths of an hour to minutes and a clock time. Quarter hours are in bold because they are the easiest anchors to remember: 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75 hours are 15, 30 and 45 minutes.

Every value comes from the same exact math as the converters on this site, so the chart and the tools never disagree. To convert a value that is not in the chart, use the Minutes to Decimal converter.

Questions

What is 15 minutes in decimal hours?

15 minutes is 0.25 hours. The other quarter hours are 30 minutes = 0.50, 45 minutes = 0.75 and 60 minutes = 1.00.

Why are some values marked with ≈?

The exact decimal repeats forever (20 minutes is 0.3333… hours), so the chart rounds it to the number of places you pick and marks every rounded value with ≈.

How do I use the chart for 7 hours 20 minutes?

Look up the minutes and add the whole hours: 20 minutes is 0.33, so 7 hours 20 minutes is 7.33 hours.

Why is 0.01 hour exactly 36 seconds?

An hour has 3,600 seconds, and a hundredth of 3,600 is 36. That is why the second table can show every row as exact minutes and seconds.

Can I print the chart?

Yes. Choose Print chart and the browser prints the two tables without the rest of the page. Use the decimal places and step buttons first to get the version you need.
